Canberra Photo Marathon 2012

After last year’s disappointment I won’t be entering the Canberra Photo Marathon this year.  The shooting part of the day was challenging, but after waiting weeks and weeks for the exhibition to take place, to see everyone’s hard work treated so poorly, to suffer through the inept event, well I’m not going to put myself or my supportive friends through that again.

If you’re in the capital region and you’re interested in photography, get in touch with PhotoAccess and visit The Photography Room in Queanbeyan.  Avoid the Photo Marathon.

UXAustralia 2010 Visuals Awards

I’ve lost track of the number of times “design” has been dropped at UXAustralia this year and I’m loving it. I think we should recognise the good visuals. So here are some award categories; go ahead and drop a comment (or tweet) nominating the presentations that’ve stood out to you. I’ll collate the results. Feel free to make up new categories and nominate in those too. The only prizes are bragging rights in next year’s program.

Canberra Knights v Sydney Bears – 5 June 2010

[This Canberra Knights v Sydney Bears video also available in 1080p HD. If you like these vids, please rate and comment.]

The Canberra Knights reported the match thus:

Show-Stopper at Home as Knights fall to Bears

The Canberra Knights fell 4-3 at home on a last-minute to the Sydney Bears.

Two goals from Sean Scarbrough and another by Vadim Virjassov has dug Canberra out of 3-1 deficit before Valdemar Pelikovsky scored with 35 seconds remaining as the Bears converted four of six power plays to stretch the Knights’ losing streak to a season-high five games.

Sydney took the lead less than two minutes into the game when Brett Nelson-Bond and would have been further in front if not for a series of miracle saves from Canberra netminder Ryan Lowe.

Goals by Roberto Franchini and Pelokovsky on each side of a Scarbrough tally saw the Bears open the third period to a 3-1 lead.

But Virjassov would score 19 seconds into the period when he took he skated down the left wing and lasered a shot that sent Nick Boucher’s water bottle flying off the top of his net.

Seven minutes later, it was all square again when a stiff pass out of defence from Aaron Clayworth to Jordan Gavin was brought under control by Scarbrough at the Sydney blue line.

The Canberra forward rounded the Bears’ defence before scoring from a tight angle.

But the Knights’ ill discipline again saw them undone as they took a late penalty that the Bears would convert for the win.

Canberra ended the game with 34 minutes in penalties to Sydney’s 4.

Birthday Photo Adventure through Tallong, Burrawang and Bundanoon

Rail Bridge 1For this year’s birthday I went on a photo adventure through Tallong, Burrawang and Bundanoon with Deano, Lauren & Craig. Highlights of the drive included some good shots (IMHO) of a rail bridge near Tallong, lunch at the Burrawang Village Hotel and more eats at The Red Violin Cafe in Bundanoon.
