Sat 8 May 2010
The Canberra Knights’ penalty killing unit produced three shorthanded goals as Canberra pounded the Sydney Ice Dogs 8-3.
Garrett Delaquis and Vadim Virjasov combined for 11 points as Canberra charged ahead to lead 3-0 at the first intermission.
The Ice Dogs dominated the start of the second period and pulled one back when Andrew White intercepted a clearance and fired in from the point.
Canberra also got out of jail free moments later, when Derek Campbell struck the post on a two-on-one opportunity.
But the game ironically turned around when Alastair Band was binned for interference, as Delaquis scored two shorthanded goals on on that kill, both assisted by Virjassov.
Delaquis broke away from the blue line to score the first and got the second when Mark Rummukainen played Virjassov down the right flank while Delaquis skated into the slot and wound up, before blasting a one-timer over the shoulder of Sydney goaltender Alan Becken.
Rummukainen then scored on the power play three minutes later when his shot was deflected off a Sydney stick.
The Ice Dogs would score two more goals on each side of the second intermission to cut Canberra’s lead to 6-3.
But the Knights came back again, with Jordan Gavin scoring on another man advantage before Sean Scarbrough latched on to a lob out of defense to round up the scoring with three minutes to go.
But Sydney’s Campbell checked Scarbrough as the Knight was celebrating and was joined in the box by Adam Culligan a minute later as the Ice Dogs self-destructed, allowing Canberra to coast the remainder of the game on the power play.
Canberra next hosts the Melbourne Ice on May 15.
The Sydney Ice Dogs haven’t posted a match report.

Such good video, Dean! What camera was that?
On topic though, would be interested in joining you for a game if you're coming to Sydney at all for one in the future.
Thanks
I'm pretty stoked with the quality of the image and hopefully my camerawork will improve with practice. It's shot on a Canon 550D DSLR. The audio's improved by a Rode SVM on the hotshoe (the 550D's internal mic isn't crash-hot).
