Little Red Van: Brodburger

Posted by Dean on May 7, 2009 at 11:01 pm.

If you’ve driven along Bowen Drive in the last few months, you would have seen the little red van. Perhaps you drove by at night when it was all lit up. Perhaps you thought it was just another food van selling greasy, deep fried foods, burgers dripping oil, chips & gravy, chiko rolls and the like.

Well, you’d be wrong.

Brodburger does burgers, yes, but they’re really good burgers. I got the hot tip from a vegetarian friend and went to check them out tonight and was impressed. They do tasty beef burgers. I’m going to go back and try the rest of the menu (over time, I’m not that greedy).

  • Just came across another bit of background:

    “Credit bite beefs up business

    Canberra has reason to
give thanks for the global economic meltdown and a tasty one at that.
Professional chef Sascha Brodbeck, a former employee at Griffith fine
diner Element (now closed), set out this year to start his own
business. But spiralling rents, a marked downturn in trade across the
board and cost of wages sent Mr Brodbeck in an entirely different
direction to a car park on Kingston foreshore, his closest neighbours a
ballet of swans. Determined to enter the Canberra food market in a
unique way and tired of limited late night dining facilities, Mr
Brodbeck set up shop on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, in a vintage
caravan adorned with red fairy lights. And so, Brodburger was born. A
far cry from the often thankless and physically gruelling work of a
professional kitchen, Mr Brodbeck, accompanied by girlfriend Joelle
Bou-Jaoude, now spends his days going about the business of creating
the perfect burger, visiting the markets and hand-selecting produce.
Brodburger caters for vegetarians, seafood lovers and those partial to
a meat patty flame- grilled of course. Canberra Times, April 19.”

  • Yummiest burgah I’ve had in Canberra. I was beginning to lose hope as I am a burgah fan :)

  • The Beef BrodBurger with Brie was simply the best hamburger I’ve had in Australia ever. Well done Mr Brodbeck, and thanks awefully Dean for the tip :)

  • Vegie burger was sensational! :)

  • Jem’s established a group to share the Brodburger love on Facebook: Brodburger Appreciation Society.
