Conroy’s media on autopilot as his electorate burns

Senator Conroy’s office has form when it comes to timing its press releases to be completely subsumed by other news. First he buried the announcement of the government’s intent to force a filtered internet on to the Australian public by releasing it on New Years Eve 2007.  Now The Inqisitr reports that Conroy’s Safer Internet Day release hit the wires today (as I forecast in January), its timing predictable but demonstrating a complete lack of sensitivity towards the people killed or injured, towards those who’ve lost their homes and irreplaceable keepsakes in the bushfires that swept through Victoria over the weekend and continue today, the people he was elected to represent.

While I usually have some sympathy for staffers, Conroy and his media advisers should have reviewed their releases and left the Safer Internet Day stuff to ACMA. They should have seen this coming.  My bet is that Conroy will rest easy thinking the people who voted for him will not remember nor care about this when reelection time comes. Hopefully OpenAustralia will be in a position to remind them.
